City as TextTM Opening

Thursday, November 7, 2013: 11:00 AM-12:00 PM
Grand Ballroom (Sheraton New Orleans Hotel)
Sponsored by The Washington Center for Internships & Academic Seminars
New Orleans is a city whose history is thick with irresistible images. Lushly seductive, it is also a place whose geography has proven both an asset and an albatross. From our hotel headquarters at the edge of The French Quarter, we will be able to explore its relation to waterways, and to travel its multiple visual and oral languages. City as Text, developed by NCHC’s Honors Semesters Committee, invites you to spend Thursday, November 7, mapping this complex city, talking to its residents about the rich, troubled and unique position it holds in this country, and finding out what it is like to live here nowadays. If you want to save your place to participate in City as Text in New Orleans, select the City as Text session on the conference registration form (deadline for City as Text registration is October 4, 2013). After we receive your registration, we will send you additional information about exploration choices. Be sure your travel plans allow you to be with us from late morning (11 a.m.) to late afternoon (about 5 p.m.). Luggage can be left with the Bell Captain if you arrive early Thursday morning. Confirmation of assignments will be mailed mid-October. Bernice Braid and Liz Beck, Honors Semesters Committee Co-Chairs.
